Yanjing Beer

Written by

Yanjing is a brew made of many ingredients including rice and mineral water from 300 feet below the Beijing YanShan mountain. The crafting and characteristics of this brew are recognized as “green” particularly because this beer is brewed in ways that do not harm our environment. It also comes in green bottles to protect its integrity from sunlight. Kinda makes me want to junk the daily vitamin and drink this stuff instead.

At first pour, this brew was clear and golden with great carbonation and a finger of white foamy head. It had a rather refreshing dry floral smell that seemed very inviting. This beer tasted of malt and hops with an incredible light and crisp body that seems to be a consistent characteristic of beers brewed with rice. Yanjing finishes good with a mild malty flavor that disappears quickly, however, these quick to vanish flavors come strolling back after every sip. Refreshing!

This beer is China’s #1 selling brew and Asia’s largest brewery, similar to our American powerhouses such as Miller, Coors etc… Cold, crisp, light and refreshing, so bust out that drinking game or socialize with a handful of these “bad boys” because they will slide down the hatch all night long!

  1. Yanjing beer is without a doubt one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m so fortunate to be able to drink this in Vancouver BC. 9\10

  2. A poor example of a lager style beer. Loads of rice adjunts, very little hop and a watery base. Some problems reported in eastern Canada with people who suffer from celiac disease when the Canadian importer made claims it was gluten free and wasn’t. Pass on this beer if you are interested in exploring Asian beers.

  3. Yanjing #1 Beer in China?

Nope. It’s Snow Beer who has held this position for the last 4 years in terms of volume productions and sales, prior to that it was Tsingtao Beer who is currently the second leading brand in China.

  4. I tried YanJing because I have drank Tsingtao for many years…..Tsingtao is one of my favouritee beers.
YanJing has quickly become one of my favourites, not only do I like the flavour, and the great mouth appeal, and its refreshing qualities, I also like that it is the cheapest import beer one can buy in our BC govt liquor store.
It is ideal with Chinese food(which I cook a lot) and is far less hoppy than Tsingtao.
Now I have to give the nod to Tsingtao for flavour and body, but for a beer that slides down very easily, and isnt laden with chemicals like the domestic stuff, Yanjing is a very good beer.
As to being gluten free, it isnt being brewed with barley….barley still contains gluten, which is what celiac sufferers are sensitive to….but it does claim to be wheat free. This is why celiac disease sufferers would probably have had adverse reactions to it.

  5. Popular wisdom says Yanjing is gluten free but it’s actually not … they use barley. The brewery itself, as well as independent labs have verified this fact. That said … this is a great beer, especially with Chinese food!

  6. The first post by “allan” is actually the Canadian agent trying to promote the beer. Yanjing is a crappy macro beer from China, Not the number one beer, never was and they use banned formaldehyde in the beer. It is not gluten free and is rice based. Local Beijing brand.
